How It Works
A great interiorscaping project depends on more than great plants. It requires understanding a space honestly, setting clear expectations, and the expertise to bring it all together. Here is what working with Vine looks like from first contact through long-term care.
Step 1
Free Initial Consultation
The process starts with a conversation. For clients in the Missoula area, this is typically an in-person visit to assess the key site conditions: available light, wall and floor surfaces, proximity to plumbing and electrical, and the overall design context of the space. For out-of-area clients in Bozeman, Whitefish, Kalispell, or elsewhere, the initial consultation is conducted digitally — a video call paired with photos and dimensions you share with us.There is no charge for the initial consultation and no obligation to proceed.
Step 2
Design and Proposal
After the initial consultation, we develop a detailed design proposal covering plant selection, planter recommendations, a layout plan, and a complete project quote. This involves meaningful time and expertise, and we charge a design retainer for this stage. That retainer is applied in full toward your project cost if you choose to move forward — so for clients who proceed, it is not an added expense.We will discuss the design retainer openly when we schedule this stage, and we are happy to work through how it applies to your specific project.
Step 3
Installation
Installation timelines depend on the scope and complexity of the project. Most smaller installations are completed within four to six weeks of a signed proposal. Mid-size projects typically run six to eight weeks. Larger or more complex projects are planned on a case-by-case basis. Timelines can shift based on plant availability, custom material lead times, and site conditions — we communicate throughout and we do not rush work that should not be rushed.
Step 4
Ongoing Maintenance
For most installations, and especially for living walls, we strongly encourage a maintenance program. The plants in your space represent a real investment, and consistent professional care is what protects that investment over time.For installations in the Missoula area, Vine offers a full-service maintenance program under which we assume total responsibility for the health and appearance of your installation.
Regular visits cover all watering, fertilizing, pest prevention and treatment, trimming and pruning, foliage cleaning, and planter maintenance. Every plant under a full-service maintenance agreement is backed by our replacement guarantee: if a plant declines under our care, it is replaced at no cost to you.
For clients throughout the rest of Western Montana — including Kalispell, Whitefish, Bozeman, and Helena — we offer a quarterly maintenance service focused on fertilizing, deep pruning, and thorough cleaning. While routine watering between visits is the client's responsibility, quarterly service ensures your installation receives professional horticultural care on a regular basis and stays healthy over the long term.
